DIY Writing Retreats are organised by writers for writers of all genres and offered at cost-price (not for profit). We are a welcoming bunch of writers who like to meet up at least twice a year for some focused writing time away from the distractions of daily life. Some of our writers have had their work published/performed, others are working towards that. We might be working on poetry, a novel, autobiography, play, short stories, screenplay, children’s book, radio play, song lyrics, any creative project… and everything in between. DIY is a great place to find inspiration to start a new project or to carry on with a work in progress.
A DIY retreat is a good balance of hard work, dream-time and fun in good company: you can write all day uninterrupted only by meals if you like, or in bursts that are punctuated by a walk, a cuppa or a chat. It’s up to you how you fill in your time. In the evenings we get together to read our work and to give and receive constructive feedback – we find that peer-lead mutual support has helped us to go from strength to strength as writers. This retreat will be for around 16 participants and is suitable for writers & creatives who can work independently.
We’re looking forward to returning to the amazing and atmospheric Northmoor House, if you’ve not been before check out the picture gallery on www.northmoorhouse.co.uk Breakfast and lunch will be help-yourself affairs, dinner will be cooked and served by my daughter Eve and her partner Ollie using fresh, local ingredients. There will be a rota for washing-up.
Car-sharing / pick-ups from Tiverton Parkway station organised where possible.
There’s just ONE space left, we hope you can join us.

Some participant feedback:
“It was wonderful, crazy, productive, inspiring, delicious and such fun.”
“DIY is a rare thing and a precious writing space for me – it’s made such a difference to my professional development as a playwright.”
“I’ve just had my third children’s book accepted for publication. So I’d be daft not to do DIY again (and again and again) – being in such creative company is so condusive.
