Here at Literature Works HQ, we intend to be tuned in to BBC Two tonight for the first episode of Man in An Orange Shirt.
The two part drama is our patron, Patrick Gale’s screenwriting debut. A dual narrative, Man In An Orange Shirt presents two very different love stories – one that had to be hidden in the midst of worn torn England but which has shock waves still felt in the modern day and one set in the modern day which faces its own challenges. Focalised on one family and their inter generational attitudes toward homosexuality, the drama forms part of the BBC’s Gay Britannia programming.
Although not strictly autobiographical, Man in An Orange Shirt draws on elements of Patrick’s own upbringing and life.
We thought it was an incredible piece of thought provoking drama and we can’t wait for episode 2.
