Riptide volume 12: ‘Cradle to Grave’

Send Riptide unpublished stories and poems on the theme Cradle to Grave that in some way celebrate and reflect on a caring society, healthcare and the 70th anniversary of the NHS.

Submission Guidelines:

Stories – up to 5000 words
Poems – send up to 5 poems (up to 40 lines per poem)

All submissions must be original work and not previously published.


Riptide volume 13: Childhood-themed Competitin

In collaboration with Exetreme Imagination, Exeter Literature Festival for and by Young People, Riptide is facilitating a competition for adult writers. They want unpublished stories and poems that use themes relating to ‘childhood’ that surprise, amuse and challenge us.

First prize £50 and publication.

Runners up in the competition will also be published in Riptide 13 – the anthology will also include writing by young people alongside stories and poems by established writers.

Poems – Send up to Five poems per entry (Up to 40 lines per poem)

Online Entry Purchase one copy of Riptide from as confirmation of your entry fee – then email your story/poems to Put Exetreme Imagination Entry in the subject line. (They will post a copy of the selected volume to entrants. In the event of a particular volume running out they will substitute with an alternative volume.)

In your email include a short biography if you wish. However, submissions will be judged anonymously, so stories and poems should be as an attachment (preferably a word doc) without inclusion of the writer’s name on the file.

Postal Entries: Address your entries to Riptide Editors, Dept of English, Queen’s Drive, University of Exeter, EX4 4QH with a cheque made payable to Riptide Journal for the volume of your choice.

Winners will be informed in August/September 2018 and invited to the festival in Exeter in October 2018.

* If your story or poem is selected for publication the Riptide Team support and advise new writers through the editing/publishing process. Unfortunately the editors cannot offer feedback on unpublished submissions.
