About the Author

Sophie E Tallis is a published author, an illustrator for HarperCollins, a freelance illustrator/artist and a full member of The Society of Authors and ALCS. She has enjoyed an independent bookshop and Waterstones book signing tour around the West Country and Wales and was a featured participating author/illustrator at the Cirencester Literary Festival in 2015.

She was born in Bristol and now lives in the Cotswolds with her family and four enormous white wolves. She has a BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art and a Post-Grad in Education and after teaching full time for 16 years she now works in a library, a dream job surrounded by books all day.

As a writer, she was a Quarterfinalist for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award (ABNA) in 2011. Her debut novel, an epic fantasy, White Mountain, the first of her Darkling Chronicles trilogy was first published in 2012 and was then re-published in a superior edition 1st December 2014 by Grimbold Books, an acclaimed independent publisher based in Banbury. She is currently writing the sequel, Darkling Rise, in addition to a number of short stories and novellas which are being published this year. Her sci-fi short story ‘Silent Running’ featured in the critically applauded, Fight Like A Girl anthology published by Kristell Ink & Grimbold Books in a huge book launch in Bristol in April 2016. Her latest short story, a dark fairytale, ‘The Orphan and the Iron Troll’, featured in the hardback anthology, Shadows of the Oak, published by Tenebris Books in December 2016.

As a highly skilled illustrator, Sophie E Tallis has illustrated 11 books so far both as a freelance artist and as an illustrator for HarperCollins. She specialises in internal pen & ink illustrations, portraits and fantasy maps and can adapt to any style wanted. Her latest commissions have included creating a world map for renowned fantasy writer, Juliet E McKenna, and her ‘River Kingdom’ series, and being commissioned by HarperCollins to create two fantasy maps for their two debut grimdark authors. The first was a fantasy map for Anna Smith-Spark and her debut novel, The Court of Broken Knives, and for Anna Stephens and her highly anticipated debut, Godblind, both being published by HarperVoyager in June 2017 and by Orbit and other publishers around the world after that.

Sophie E Tallis is currently in talks to agents about her first fully illustrated picture book.
