The Dorchester Literary Festival is holding a second annual writing competition to encourage and support local writers.

The DLF Local Writing Prize aims to continue Dorset’s literary tradition by investing in its homegrown talent. This is a fantastic opportunity for writers whose work has been published on a local level to gain national exposure, and notice from literary establishment figures.

The team are looking for book length submissions of works of fiction, non-fiction, or short stories that have been published by a Local Independent Publisher or self-published, from any writer based in Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Devon and Cornwall or with a close connection to those counties.

Entries should be submitted by 28th February 2019, written for adults, not children, and have been published and sold as printed copies, not just in a digital format, within three years prior to submission.

A judging panel, including professional writers and a leading literary agent, will then compile the shortlist to be announced at the end of May. There will then be an event involving the shortlisted authors hosted by a leading writer in July 2019 announcing the winner, who will receive a prize of £1,000.

Further essential information, including the submission process can be found on the Dorchester Literary Festival’s website.
