A course to practice writing the shortest of short stories. Flash teaches the writer brevity, compression, layered story-telling and helps hone editing skills. Writing prompts, feedback and sharing.

Each week we’ll write, read contemporary flash fiction writers, discuss techniques and you will share your flash fictions in a supportive group. If you’re wondering what flash fiction is, it’s usually defined as a short story under 1,000 words and in the UK, often under 500 words.

The image of the marble reflecting the wider world is a great metaphor for the form. I’ll provide detailed feedback for two pieces of your flash fiction.

The course is suitable for beginners and those who are more advanced and it will be delivered on Zoom. Grace Palmer is an experienced creative writing teacher and has worked at Bristol Folk House and Paper Nations working on the Time to Write programme delivering The Writer’s Cycle. Her passion is to help writers find their voice, write more and polish their stories. Grace also runs Novel NIghts.

“Incredible tutoring, support, editing, advice, how to develop writing techniques and habits. You have re-ignited my passion for writing. Thank you, Grace”

“I made the long list for this year’s @nationalflashfd! I’m so excited. I knew the idea was good but it took ages to get the words right. Thank you @wordpoppy for teaching me the ways of Flash, and for all your support and encouragment.” TN
