Thomas Gray Competition 2015 Award Ceremony

  • St Giles Church
  • September 24
  • 17:30 - 20:00

The Award Ceremony will take place in St. Giles’ Church, Stoke Poges on Thursday 24th September starting with a tour of the Gray landscape at 5.30pm.

It will be open to the public but we ask people who would like to attend to email rogeraskew@btinternet.com as there will be a short reception.

All being well the winners will read their poems at the event.

Winners this year:

Charlotte Stevens : Open Class

Charlotte, a London-based poet, is a full time lawyer in the international development sector. She is truly delighted that her poem was chosen as she is a big fan of Carol Rumen’s work.  This was the first time she had read the Elegy and she sees this as a testament to the value of the competition in introducing people to Gray’s poetry. She was intrigued by the work and drawn into the profound sense of a loss difficult to articulate. The Thomas Gray Anniversary Competition is her first competition win.

Joe Williams : School Class

Joe studied the Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard as part of his A2 studies along with works from Wordsworth, Goldsmith, Milton and Marvell.

He was born and grew up in Gloucestershire where he attended St Peter’s RC High School. At A level he studied Maths and Music with English being his favourite subject.  He will start an English Degree at Goldsmiths College in September.
