Virginia Baily’s new novel Early One Morning begins in occupied Rome in 1943 when a young woman locks eyes with a stranger about to be deported and claims the stranger’s child as her own. Winner of the McKitterick Prize, awarded by the Society of Authors for her first novel Africa Junction, Virginia will trace the pathways between ideas and stories and look at the importance of music, solid objects and a sense of place in translating the abstract into the concrete and bringing a story to life. This event promises to be not just interesting for fans of Virginia’s writing, but also for budding writers.
