Word Online, a free virtual tour of diverse voices in South West libraries, makes its third stop via Dorset Libraries.

In this online event, James will read from their debut Oincollection Manatomy published by Burning Eye Books along with new work from their forthcoming pamphlet and second collection. James will also discuss how to write plays & poetry and how to start & sustain a career as a freelance artist.

James McDermott is a queer writer based in East Anglia. They graduated from UEA with an MA (Distinction) in Scriptwriting and trained on The Royal Court Writers Group. Their plays published by Samuel French include Rubber Ring (Pleasance Islington; UK Tour) and Time and Tide (Park Theatre; Offie nominated for Best New Play 2020). James is currently writing new plays for Norwich Theatre, Norwich Playhouse, Revoluton Arts and Mercury Theatre. James is developing TV projects with Big Talk and Ranga Bee Productions and is one of the writers on EastEnders Writers Scheme 2021.


James’s poetry collection Manatomy is published by Burning Eye. James’s poems have been published in various magazines including The Gay and Lesbian Review, The Cardiff Review, Popshot Quarterly, Ink Sweat and Tears and Dawntreader. James was shortlisted for Outspoken’s Performance Poetry Prize 2020 and Commended in The Winchester Poetry Prize 2020 judged by Andrew McMillan.
