'Encounters on a Bench': Penelope Shuttle’s radio poem is inspired by the memorial bench to her late husband Peter Redgrove in Queen Mary Gardens by the sea in Falmouth.

It is also a poem about Falmouth, and it responds to a number of interviews by Anna Scott-Brown with several Falmouth residents recorded on Peter’s bench. These voices weave around Shuttle’s poem which she reads herself, in a vivid soundscape encompassing bereavement, renewal, and varied witness to life in Falmouth today and in the past.

‘Encounters on a Bench’ will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4, on 1st March 2020 at 4.30 pm, with a repeat on 8th March, also at 4.30 pm.
