Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival is challenging children to get creative during the lockdown period and submit their work to the Festival’s online gallery.

The theme is ‘Loving My World’ and the Festival team are inviting young people aged up to 18 years of age to submit poems, stories, pictures and photographs for the virtual gallery.

Annie Ashworth, Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival Artistic Director, said: “An important part of the Festival’s work is to nurture and grow a love of words and creativity which is particularly important whilst schools are closed. We want to do our bit to help to inspire and entertain young people.

“For the theme ‘Loving My World’, we want them to look to the world around them for inspiration, whether it’s as close as their back garden to places across the globe. We want to know what everyone loves about the world, and to encourage them to be creative and let their imaginations take off with words or pictures.

“We will create an online gallery showcasing as many works as we can. The gallery can be shared with family and friends from the comfort of your own home, so we can celebrate everyone’s work and champion creativity.”

The initiative is open to young people aged three to 18 from anywhere in the UK but we especially welcome submissions from the South West, and may include poems up to 300 words, stories up to 700 words, original photographs or pictures in any medium. Work can be uploaded as a Word Document, odt document, jpg or PDF to the Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival website.
