A Spot of Writing is a biannual magazine created by Weston Writers’ Nights to celebrate emerging writers from Somerset and the surrounding areas. Each issue features short stories, poetry, non-fiction and flash fiction from local writers on selected themes.

Submissions are open for Issue #3 of A Spot of Writing Magazine, which will explore our relationship to the changing natural world.

Our Home: Planet Earth

While we each live different lives and have different perspectives on the world, we all have something in common: Planet Earth is our home. Wherever you live, nature is all around us, providing vital resources for our survival, as well as an intangible beauty that can have huge benefits for mental health.

Submissions might respond to current events, imagining a future that is wildly different to the present day, or they may depict extraordinary versions of everyday moments. They may be personal responses, or fictional interpretations – pick a character and tell their story.
