Pop-up Poetry Café events in Cheltenham Library in Clarence Street run once a month and past readers include Sharon Larkin from Cheltenham Poetry Society.
The June Pop-up offers two guest poets – Patrick Mackie and Anna Saunders plus an open mic and refereshments.
Patrick Mackie’s first collection, Excerpts From the Memoirs Of A Fool, was published by Carcanet in 2001. His new book, The Further Adventures Of The Lives Of The Saints, is published in spring 2016.
He has been described as ‘masterful’ by Stephen Burt in The Poetry Review.
Philip Gourevitch said of him ‘What good poems Patrick Mackie writes – smart, elemental, and funny, sometimes dark and solid as earth, sometimes bright and fluid as rain. He has great range, and presence, and to read him is to be enlarged.’
Anna Saunders is the author of Communion, (Wild Conversations Press), Struck (Pindrop Press), Kissing the She Bear, (Wild Conversations Press) and Burne Jones and The Fox, (Indigo Dreams) and the forthcoming Ghosting for Beginners.
She has been described as ‘a gifted poet whose work is unfolding in remarkable directions’ by Nick Drake and ‘ a poet who surely can who can do anything’ by Wendy Klein, The North.
Please bring your work to share in the open mic.
1pm, Friday June 30th, Cheltenham Library.
