Here at Literature Works, we're great believers in the restorative power of curling up with a good book, be that a much loved novel, a well thumbed collection of poetry or a yet-to-be-discovered favourite.

We promote this focus in projects like Region of Readers and we’ve found that the theme of wellness and well-being, of the power of reading for pleasure has been the subject of much discussion in literary and publishing circles.

Libraries have engaged with a ‘books on prescription’ initiative with precisely the view that books can help to improve well-being. The Reader has established a shared reading programme, encouraging people to read together and share their ideas. This one subject that is at the very forefront of discussions about the role of books in our modern lives.

When we heard The Guardian Books podcast episode entitled ‘can books and poetry make you happier?’, we knew we had to share it with you.
