I write books for teens and young adults, about the sea, danger and – recently – stories of magic and the magic of stories. I have two books with HarperCollins, Kook and Storms (sold to other publsihers/countries too), and a new book – Girl, Boy, Sea – out with Head of Zeus, August 2019.
I live near Bath, but spend a lot of time in Cornwall.
As well as writing I do non-fiction copywriting (web mostly), school author visits, workshops, festivals and workshops with writers at all stages of development. I’ve presented at Hay, Penzance, Rimini (Italy) and was writer in residence at Trowbridge Lit fest in 2017. I presented at the 2018 NAWE conference and have completed research and consultancy for Paper Nations. Phew! It’s a mixed bag, but all centred around writing and stories; working out what they are and how to tell them.
I have an MA in Writing for Young People from Bath Spa Uni.
Kook was called a ‘no holds barred love story’ and ‘darkly dramatic‘ by The Guardian in their June 2016 roundup of best new children’s books. It was also their May 2016 book of the month: ‘a gripping and heartbreaking story of love and obsession.’
