I am an artist with a focus on the art and practice of pilgrimage. Currently in the process of writing a book, My Rainbow Ribbon Ride, about a long distance equine journey I undertook with my Connemara Pony, Tommy.
Starting in the Spring of 2015, over three and a half months, I walked and rode 1,000 miles across the country from the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in Northumberland, to St. Michael’s Mount in Cornwall, where I lived at the time. By linking these two Holy Islands, I hoped to create a spiritual thread between them, and in the process, possibly reconnect with an ancient pilgrim route.
The story not only relives the daily physical, mental and emotional challenges we encounter in our daily ‘Rides’, but it also ponders the inner journey, the other-worldly, spiritual and metaphorical journey as told in the form of a reflective back-story that wraps around the main, linear story. In the course of the retelling of my story, colour – in the form of a focus for healing – was woven into the spiritual threads of the narrative.
I envisage this book to be lavishly illustrated with ‘scrap-book’ type drawings, photos and notes. Having prepared a first draft of My Rainbow Ribbon Ride, I am now seeking an agent / publisher who would be interested in taking on such a story.
