J. R. Carpenter is an artist, writer, and practice-led researcher working across print, performance, and digital media. Themes of place, displacement, migration, and climate change have long pervaded her work. Her digital literature have been presented museums and festivals around the world. Her short fiction and poetry has been anthologised and published in journals including Oxford Poetry, Arc Poetry Magazine, PRISM International, Chicago Review, and 3:AM Magazine.
She is a two-time winner of the CBC Quebec Writing Competition. Her first novel won the Expozine Alternative Press Award 2008. Her web-based work The Gathering Cloud won the New Media Writing Prize 2016. ‘This is a Picture of Wind’, a weather poem for phones, won the Dot Award for Digital Literature and the Opening Up Digital Fiction Competition People’s Choice Award 2018. Her debut poetry collection, An Ocean of Static, was highly commended for the Forward Prize 2018.
She has been a writer-in-residence at Yaddo, Ucross, The Banff Centre, the Archives Nationales in Paris and Greenway in Devon, and has had Visiting Fellowships at the Eccles Centre at the British Library at the Moore Institute at NUI Galway. For more information visit http://luckysoap.com
