In this workshop Giles Abbott will teach you the fundamentals of voice production for a range of performance contexts (storytelling, acting, poetry, public speaking). In just two hours you will hear your own voice change, becoming richer, more resonant, more expressive and you will leave knowing how to develop it further.
Giles Abbott qualified as a Voice Teacher in 2004 (MA Voice Studies, CSSD). He currently teaches at Identity School of Acting, at MetFilm School, at CityLit as well as freelance and he has previously taught at ALRA, Arts Ed. and Birkbeck College.
1.45-3.45pm Workshop: British Folk Tales: spoken or scribed?
led by Lisa Schneidau
Our folk tales are tantalizing fragments of past lived experience, continuing to change as we re-tell them today. This workshop will compare written and spoken forms of British folk tales, and explore modern interpretation of folktale material about people and nature through both media. It will be useful for storytellers and writers alike. If you have never worked with folk tales before, this workshop will be a good introduction, and no preparation is required. If you have, then please bring along a short traditional folk tale that intrigues or unsettles you. Do also bring a notebook and a sense of humour.
Lisa Schneidau is a storyteller and environmentalist based in Devon. She seeks out, and shares, traditional stories about the land and our complex relationship with it, and works with creative storytelling as a way of enabling better connection with nature and landscape. She lives in Chagford on the north east side of Dartmoor, where she runs Dartmoor Storytellers. She is also the author of four books: English Folk Tales of Coast and Sea, River Folk Tales of Britain and Ireland, Woodland Folk Tales of Britain and Ireland and the bestselling Botanical Folk Tales of Britain and Ireland (all History Press).
