Lily’s debut memoir, Sins of My Father: A Daughter, A Cult, A Wild Unravelling, was published by W&N, and awarded best nonfiction book by The Guardian and The Spectator, 2022. Her latest book, Into Being: the radical craft of memoir and its power to transform will be published by MUP in autumn 2025. Lily also writes personal essays and has been published by Granta and Litro, and is a regular writer for Aeon.
Lily teaches and mentors memoir, both privately and at Bath Spa University. She has also taught creative writing to those on abstinence programmes through Hackney Recovery Service affiliated with St Mungo’s and is passionate about the power of writing to transform and heal. She has a doctorate and specialises in the transformative nature of memoir. She has taught for Arvon, Mslexia, Literature Works, Spread the Word, among others, and co-runs London Lit Lab.
She also chairs events and is invited on panels, to support those writing memoir.
She also writes fiction, (Shadowing the Sun, 2007, Portobello Books), and she is consultant producer of Children of the Cult (2024), a documentary directed by Maroesja Perizonius (ITV)
