Join our established Writing Our Legacy Crawley Writers Group for a writing workshop online on 25 May at 7PM. Hannah Lowe will be leading a workshop for Writing Our Legacy’s Crawley Writers group, which is open to all writers and creatives with an interest in developing their writing practice.

Breaking the Sonnet

This workshop will consider the contemporary sonnet or ‘little song’ as it translates from the Italian – often described as a ‘box’ because of its visual look and tight formal constraints. We will read and discuss a range of sonnets by formal sonneteers to sonnet experimenters, looking at how the form may constrain and escape its own parameters. Participants will be encouraged to write a range of sonnets, breaking the rules as they go.

Hannah Lowe is a writer living in London. Her first book-length collection Chick, an elegy to her Jamaican father, was published in 2013 by Bloodaxe and is shortlisted for the Forward Best First Collection Prize.

The session is open to those in all stages of writing including beginners and those new to writing.
Supported by Arts Council England’s National Lottery funded Project Grant.

The workshop will take place on Zoom.
