William and Dorothy Wordsworth lived at Alfoxton Park in 1797-8, often in the company of their friend Samuel Coleridge, who lived with his family in nearby Nether Stowey.

In this ‘Year of Marvels’ the three of them wrote some of their best work. The Lyrical Ballads, including ‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner’, and ‘Tintern Abbey’, as well as Dorothy’s ‘Alfoxden Journal’ were written here on the grounds of Alfoxton Park.

Join us to relive the spirit of English Romanticism – minus the laudanum! This retreat will combine meditation with reading, writing and exploring poetry. Held within the Quantock Hills, we will walk in the footsteps of the poets.

No previous experience of meditation or poetry is necessary to attend this retreat.
