Join The Bookery, Crediton for a live event with Philip Reeve to celebrate the publication of his new book, ‘Utterly Dark and the Face of the Deep’, an atmospheric dark tale of duty, legends, sea witches and love…

The Bookery patron, Philip Reeve, is the best-selling and prize-winning author of lots of brilliant children’s books including ‘Mortal Engines’, ‘Goblins’, and (with co-author Sarah McIntyre) ‘The Legend of Kevin’ series.

‘Utterly Dark and the Face of the Deep’ is his first novel since 2019. ‘It’s the first time I’ve really written about magic except for comedy purposes,’ he says. ‘There are shipwrecks, witches, wandering weed monsters, and plenty of cakes. I think it’s one of the best things I’ve done.’

‘Absolutely extraordinary writing, like Charles Dickens writing Ursula K Le Guin… I can’t think of anyone who does worldbuilding the way Philip Reeve does.’  – Ross Montgomery, author of The Midnight Guardians

Philip will talk about his new book and take questions from the audience.
