In this workshop with novelist Gillian Best (author of The Last Wave) and WriteClub’s Alison Powell, you’ll learn to create scintillating dialogue that brings your prose to life.
Ideal for beginners and experienced prose-writers alike, this workshop will:
* show you how dialogue works in prose
* explore how phatic talk (often) falls flat in fiction
* examine subtext and and how to do it in dialogue
* give you the skills to write brilliant dialogue
* allow you space to share your work with a supportive group

About your hosts:
Gillian Best is an award-winning, internationally published novelist. Her book The Last Wave was shortlisted for the Kobo Emerging Writer Prize (2018), and CBC Books listed her as One To Watch (2017). Her work has been shortlisted for the Bridport Short Story Prize, and she’s read at the Swindon Literary Festival, Dundee Literary Festival, and most recently at the Basement Revue. She has a PhD in Creative Writing (University of Glasgow).
Alison Powell writes prose fiction and is one of twenty emerging Welsh writers on the Hay Festival Writers at Work Programme. She has an MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa and set up WriteClub in 2016 with novelist Emily Koch. Her first novel, When the Mountain Swallowed the morning won runner-up prize in The Bridport First Novel Award, was longlisted in the Mslexia Women’s Novel Prize and shortlisted for the Janklow & Nesbit Bath Spa Award. Her flash fiction has been listed in numerous competitions and published in various anthologies.
