Tuesday 16th July 6-8pm / Thursday 18th July 6-8pm

Join Quay Words writer-in-residence Sarah Acton at dusk for a creative writing and walking workshop. We will explore the theme of bodies of water and the vessel of the body as part of individual and communal writing practice. We will get curious about the physicality of composition with our walking movement outdoors then see how this feeds into our writing practice together with discussion about the river’s memory and our bodies as vessels holding memory. Participants will meet Sarah at the quayside, enjoy a gentle walk while hearing stories of the quayside heritage, and generating ideas and fragments of new writing inspired by playful prompts and pacing out, then returning to Custom House to develop writing notes, or be guided by Sarah to make creative writing visual posters with a hot drink.

Walks are short and gentle circular distances with invitation to find a moment alone to tune in. There will be benches to rest and a pace to suit the group. The ground is stable and suitable for all levels of mobility and the walkshops is suitable for adults with an interest in exploring research practice and developing new raw material/ideas in discussion to work up afterwards.

We will meet outside the Custom House for a 45 minute walk and then return to the classroom indoors for follow up writing and making. Clipboards and materials provided. All levels and abilities welcome but most suited to adult writers and artists interested in exploring research practice. You are welcome to attend just one walkshop – or both!
