National Poetry Day is just around the corner. On 3rd October 2019, the theme of 'Truth' will be celebrated. Ahead of that, we wanted to share 'Let the river sing', a narrative poem by our Quay Words summer 2019 writer-in-residence, Louisa Adjoa Parker.
Over the course of her six week residency, Louisa immersed herself into the atmosphere of the historic Exeter Custom House and the surrounding quayside. Whether meeting other writers, inspiring the next generation or hearing from the voices of the Custom House’s past, Louisa spent the summer collecting stories and exploring the history of this unique place.
Louisa also reflected on her residency in a blog post which explores some of the motivations for the poem. She’ll also be talking about this is more detail as part of Exeter Custom House’s Heirtage Open Day on Thursday 19th September, when she’ll be in conversation with Literature Works CEO Helen Chaloner. You can book tickets here.
