If you’ve resolved to write in 2020, or if you want the perfect gift for the writer in your family, we have some superb opportunities coming up in the New Year.

This is often the time of year when we pause to take stock. Perhaps we’re thinking about childhood Christmases, or everything that’s happened in the last twelve months. Whatever the memories are, there’s a story attached to them. If you’re interested in how to record and write about your life, our Quay Words short writing course ‘Writing from Life – deep diving your memory’ with Bristol-based writer Lily Dunn, is the one for you.

Through a series of five consecutive interactive workshops, Lily will help you to explore the various forms of writing from life: memoir, testimonial and autobiographical fiction. The sessions will inspire you to channel your unique story and memories into a piece of creative work.

This is a course over five consecutive Saturdays, from 11am to 1pm, starting on Saturday 11th January and ending on 8th February 2020.  You can book your place here.

Alternatively, if you’re starting the New Year resolved to explore writing fiction – short pieces or that novel you’ve always wanted to write – Quay Words’ second short course of 2020 is a great option. ‘Writing Fiction – exploring your voice and developing your writer’s toolkit’ with Exeter-based novelist and experienced tutor, Virginia Baily, is designed for writers of all stages. Whether you’re making a first foray or writing already but looking for encouragement and inspiration, there will be excellent advice on offer.  From hints and tips about plot building, to how to create characters that leap off the page, there’s something for everyone.

This course runs over five consecutive Thursdays, from 6.30 to 8.30pm, starting on Thursday 27th February and ending on Thursday 26th March.  Book your place here.
