Literature Works supports writers and literature in all its many forms, from storytelling to flash fiction, to poetry.
We often work in partnership with other organisations who focus on a particular area of writing. Whilst we offer regular opportunities for all types of creative writing, we also signpost people to these sources of specialist support. Below is a list of some such organisations that focus on particular kinds of writing and have expertise in their field:
Crime Fiction
Crime Writers’ Association
The CWA was founded to support, promote and celebrate Crime Writing.
Digital Literature
if:book uk is a charity that explores digital and collaborative possibilities for writers and readers.
Historical Fiction
Historical Writers’ Association provides support, opportunities and networking for historical writers.
LGBTQ+ writer support
Out on the Page is an organisation providing support to emerging LGBTQ+ writers to increase the visibility of their writing with audiences through networking, collaboration and mutual support.
Playwriting
Papatango is a playwriting development agency. It provides playwriting training, events and performances for artists and audiences throughout South-West England. It also commissions and develops new plays, funds emerging producers, and teaches or produces writers in state schools, community centres and major theatres.
Poetry
The National Poetry Library provides a comprehensive list of poetry journals and magazines.
Romantic Fiction
Romantic Novelists’ Association
The Romantic Novelists’ Association promotes romantic fiction and provides support to authors of romance fiction.
Self-publishing
Alliance of Independent Authors is a non-profit professional association for authors who self-publish.
Short Stories
The Word Factory is the national organisation for short story excellence. Run by writers, not for profit but for passion.
Spoken Word
Apples and Snakes are the national NPO for performance poetry and have 35 years of experience running artist development and education projects for spoken word poets
Burning Eye Books is the South West’s leading spoken word publishing house, successfully publishing nearly 100 of the UK’s performance poets.
Writing and Well Being
Lapidus provides networking opportunities and information for people interested in writing for well being.
General
Authors Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS) make sure writers receive the money they are entitled to when someone copies or uses their work.
Writers and Artists aim to provide information and guidance for all creative writing and publishing pathways. The Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook includes annually updated articles from bestselling authors and publishing experts as well as hundreds of industry content details. They also publish a series of guides on topics ranging from self-publishing to hooking an agent and run a series of masterclasses bringing aspiring creatives together with industry professionals.
