ignitionpress Editor Mentoring Scheme
ignitionpress, winner of the 2021 Michael Marks Publishers’ Award, is establishing a six-month scheme that enables one UK-based emerging editor to develop their skills as part of a thriving small poetry pamphlet press.
The scheme is designed to be an introductory, hands-on experience of editing and the process of small-scale poetry pamphlet publishing. The mentee will develop the knowledge and confidence that will enable them to progress towards the next stage of their career.
The scheme will run over six months from October 2022 to March 2023, and will provide:
- an overview of poetry pamphlet publishing
- involvement in the editing process for a full cycle of pamphlet production
- experience of the day-to-day working of ignitionpress within the setting of Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre’s activities and academic environment.
Mentoring in these areas will be given by existing members of the Editorial Board on a one-to-one basis. We are planning for these one-to-one activities to take place remotely, with, depending on the mentee’s location, occasional face-to-face attendance at full Editorial Board meetings, and one or more online or in-person launches of the pamphlets, should Covid-19 restrictions allow.
The mentee will receive a bursary of £2,000 (payable in instalments) to support their involvement in the scheme. We actively encourage applications from people who identify as being from groups previously underrepresented in poetry pamphlet publishing.
