Seed bed
Announcing the Seed Bed, our new incubator for grassroots initiatives which explore the environment and ecology crises through creative words and stories.
Seed Bed is a serious initiative aimed at nurturing, connecting and championing community projects that focus on environmental themes explored through literature. It’s part of our contribution to exploring and highlighting the climate and environmental crisis through an urgent, creative, and hopeful lens.
Seed Bed sits in the place of the Literature Works Annual Fund which offered seed funding and support for new literature projects in the South West. The Annual Fund has supported 65 projects since 2013: from Devon and Cornwall, to Dorset, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Bristol, Bournemouth and Hampshire. The grants, advice, and networking sessions supported access to literature in local communities through an amazing range of initiatives. From library events to small and start-up literature festivals, book projects for children and young adults, theatre writing events, cultural reading activities for vulnerable older people, community engagement projects, and talking newspapers.
Seed Bed picks up on the aims of the Annual Fund and we will work closely with the selected projects, connecting them with networks and mentoring them to support the development of their work.
Seed Bed will focus on communities in the Levelling Up for Culture places in the South West region. You can view the full list here. It will offer a rolling programme, combining small grants of up to £500 each with ongoing support. To find out more and express your interest, simply email a short summary of your project (not more than 500 words), when it’s likely to happen and what support you might need from us. If we think we can support it, we’ll be in touch to arrange an online advice session and explore the options. You can email us on info@literatureworks.org.uk. Please use the subject line ‘Seed Bed’.
We look forward to hearing from you.
