A Southampton based project will celebrate the great writing it supports and promotes at an event in May.


The 2017 So:Write Showcase will be held in Southampton on 8th May 2017. The event, at Mettricks Old Town at 7 pm , will feature the winner of The Bath Novel Award 2014 Joanna Barnard, Hammer and Tongue Slam Winner Thersea Lola and novelist, Susmita Bhattacharya.

This event will include a reading and Q&A from each of the authors, as well as a limited number of open mic performances for local writers to showcase their work. Sign up from 6.30pm to secure a slot.

Theresa Lola is a British Nigerian poet. She was shortlisted for the 2016 Bridport Poetry Prize, was a highly commended winner for the 2016 Charles Causley Poetry Prize, is a Barbican Young Poet Alumni and the 2017 Hammer and Tongue Slam Champion.

Susmita Bhattacharya is a writer and creative writing tutor. Her debut novel, The Normal State of Mind (Parthian), was published in March 2015. Her short stories and essays have appeared in several literary journals in the UK and internationally such as Wasafiri, Litro, Riptide, Mslexia, Tears in the Fence as well as been broadcast on BBC Radio 4. She won the Winchester Writers’ Festival Memoir Prize in 2016 and lives in Winchester with her family and a cat named after a Bollywood star.

Joanna Barnard is an English Literature and Creative Writing MA graduate who lives in Surrey and works as a counsellor.
In 2014 Joanna’s first novel, PRECOCIOUS, won the inaugural Bath Novel Award and was subsequently published by Ebury. Her second novel, HUSH LITTLE BABY, will be published in ebook in May 2017 and in paperback in August 2017.
Joanna chairs a prose writing group in Surrey and leads the So:Write Women’s writing project in Southampton.
