Greta Stoddart
WebsiteGreta was born in Henley-on-Thames and grew up in Belgium and Oxford. She studied Drama at Manchester University and went on to the Ecole Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq in Paris before returning to London where she lived for 17 years co-founding award-winning physical theatre company Brouhaha. She published her first book of poems At Home in the Dark (Anvil) which won the 2002 Geoffrey Faber Award and was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Collection. Her two subsequent books were also shortlisted for major awards as was her BBC radio piece Who’s there? for the 2017 Ted Hughes Award.
She has also been shortlisted for the 2021 Bridport Short Story Award and longlisted for the 2022 BBC Short Story Award.
Her latest collection poetry Fool was published in 2022.
In 2023 she won a Cholmondelely Award.
Over the past 25 years Greta has taught at Morley College, London, Goldsmiths College, University of London and Bath Spa University.
She has lived in East Devon for 17 years and currently teaches for the Poetry School, Poetry Business and Arvon, as well as mentoring for Word Space, Literature Works’ talent development programme.
