Barbara Wheatley
Keen to stake my claim within a literary environment, I have a longstanding passion for language and the written word.
London: Graduating in International Marketing, I worked eight years as a freelance PR, writing promotional campaigns, press releases, copy, content, slogans, etc. within the music & entertainment industry. I last promoted PR packages via the Press Association.
Motherhood: (I now have 3 teens) allowed me to pursue my own Creative Writing. I’ve attended college, university, online and independent courses plus workshops and festivals. This creative enthusiasm was first invested in three unfinished fiction novels.
Devon: my first flash submission is shortlisted. More flash and poetry follows in several new writing collections.
Now I’ve found my voice in Creative Non Fiction, my experience and ‘repertoire’ steer me organically towards memoir, journalism and essay-writing. While competitions and blogging feature high on my “To Do” list, I also enjoy research, editing and constructive feedback. Expanding my TBR pile are memoir and translated works (French, Polish).
I’m still really into music. Otherwise, it’s film, fashion, art, and photography. I support mental health and wellbeing and run a small reuse-recycle-upcycle outlet. I’m a sucker for coffee, cream teas, crystals, the outdoors, beaches – and bookshops.
